Slidell cracks down on temporary signs in city

To maintain the safety of city streets, the City of Slidell is reminding residents and businesses about newly updated regulations regarding temporary signs as outlined in the City of Slidell’s Code of Ordinances.

Section 2.23 – Sign Regulations

2.2305 Temporary sign. A sign that is intended for short-term display, including, but not limited to a banner, pennant, poster, or advertising display constructed of paper, cloth, canvas, plastic sheet, cardboard, wallboard, plywood, or other like materials and that appears to be intended or is determined by the Planning Department to be displayed for a limited period of time.

Snipe sign. A sign which is attached to vegetation of any kind, landscape materials, utility poles, public infrastructure, or fences.

Sec. 2.2308. No person shall erect a sign on public property… Any unauthorized sign in the right-of-way may be collected and disposed of immediately by the City.

Sec. 2.2315. Regulation of Temporary Signs.

(a) Generally. Subject to the sign area limitations and the provisions of this section, temporary signs shall:

(1) Be allowed in any zoning district;

(2) Not be located within any right-of-way whether public, dedicated or owned in fee simple, or as an easement;

(3) Not be placed on any utility pole, streetlight, vegetation of any type, or on public property;

(4) Not be illuminated.

(5) Not be displayed for more than seven (7) days.

According to the City’s regulations, signs in the public right-of-way and snipe signs are strictly prohibited within Slidell. As such, the City is issuing a deadline for the removal of any existing such signs by Wednesday, May 1, 2024. After May 1, any unlawful signs found within the City limits will be collected and disposed of by authorities. Failure to comply with the removal deadline may result in penalties as outlined in the Code of Ordinances.

Fat City Swing closes out Bayou Jam Spring Concert Series on May 10

The City of Slidell’s Bayou Jam Spring Concert Series concludes on Friday, May, 10, with a performance by the Fat City Swing Band starting at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

“Bayou Jam concerts have become a beloved tradition for our citizens that unites our city through the power of music and community,” said Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer. “I invite you to join us at Heritage Park for fantastic Friday nights filled with music and fun!”

Bayou Jam concerts will be held on Fridays from 6 to 8 p.m. Guests are invited to bring their chairs, blankets, ice chests and picnic baskets to the park to enjoy the free concerts. Olde Towne Pizza will be selling concessions for a nominal charge.

Fat City Swing Orchestra is comprised of some of the best jazz musicians in the New Orleans area. Jon and Wesley Mannino founded the band to keep their family’s musical legacy alive. This 16 piece big band plays all your favorite jazz and swing tunes. Carey Street Traffic Change

The City of Slidell advises motorists that Carey St. will be one-way traffic, northbound, from Robert St. to Cousin St. beginning April 17th. This change will include on-street, angled parking adjacent to the travel lane.

April 11th Storm Recovery Update

Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer met with other City and Parish officials and representatives from the Slidell Police Department, Fire District 1, Acadian Ambulance and CLECO. Here’s some notes from the meeting this morning.
Team Slidell is in recovery mode. City crews are clearing roads, assessing damaged buildings, drainage choke points, water wells and pump stations.
CLECO reports that they have 400 crews in the Slidell area. They are assessing and trying to restore power to the 30,000 still without power in St. Tammany. Citizens are encouraged to check the CLECO outage map at https://myaccount.cleco.com/Portal/#/PreOutages for updates.
The city’s water system never lost pressure. Water service inside the city limits remains safe to use and consume.
Fritchie Park (905 W. Howze Beach Road) will serve as a distribution center. IMPORTANT: enter Fritchie Park from Howze Beach Road.

• ice should be available for distribution at noon
