City searches to fill vacant position on the Olde Towne Preservation District Commission

The City of Slidell, Louisiana is searching for a member of the community with a passion for Olde Towne Slidell to fill a vacant seat on the Olde Towne Preservation District Commission.

City offices closed Oct. 11 for Columbus Day

In observation of Columbus Day, city offices will be closed on Monday, October 11, 2021. Offices will reopen during regular hours on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021.

Essential personnel will remain on duty, should an emergency arise. If Slidell residents experience problems with their water or sewer service, they should call the City Services 24-hour emergency hotline at (985) 643-6140.

Slidell receives $4.7 million in ARP support – solicits input from citizens

The City of Slidell, Louisiana will be receiving nearly $4.7 million from the American Rescue Plan to strengthen support for vital public services.

Several important improvements around the city will be prioritized with these funds:

  • Aeration at the Terrace Avenue Waste-Water Treatment Plant will be rehabilitated
  • New water and sewage facilities will be installed from Lindberg Drive across I-10 to the E. I-10 Service Road
  • Several pump stations around the city will be rehabilitated
  • City operating systems and software for online payments and application submissions will be upgraded
  • A kiosk will be installed outside of the city administration building to allow for contactless, after hours payments

Funding for the American Rescue plan can be used to:

  • Support urgent COVID-19 response efforts to continue to decrease spread of the virus and bring the pandemic under control
  • Replace lost revenue for eligible state, local, territorial, and Tribal governments to strengthen support for vital public services and help retain jobs
  • Support immediate economic stabilization for households and businesses
  • Address systemic public health and economic challenges that have contributed to the inequal impact of the pandemic

Intersection of Kostmayer Ave. and City Dr. closed for emergency repairs

Due to emergency infrastructure repairs, the intersection of Kostmayer Avenue and City Drive is currently closed. Pending any unforeseen circumstances, the intersection should reopen tomorrow, Wednesday, October 6 at 6 p.m.

Keep Slidell Beautiful receives Cleanup Supply Grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful

Keep Slidell Beautiful (KSB) was recently awarded a Cleanup Supplies Grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful. The supplies – including work gloves, litter grabbers, trash bags and safety vests – will be used at the Keep Slidell Beautiful Fall City-Wide Cleanup on Saturday, November 6.
The purpose of the Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) Cleanup Supplies Grant is to build KSB’s litter supply inventory by providing the tools needed to conduct community cleanups and coordinate waste reduction events. Local cleanups of litter and debris removal from roadways and waterways is a way to bring the community together to bring awareness to the litter problem, recruit volunteers and remove a considerable amount of litter.

“We are grateful to Keep Louisiana Beautiful for providing this grant opportunity and for their continued support of Keep Slidell Beautiful,” said Trey Brownfield, Director of Keep Slidell Beautiful. “Our volunteers will be able to use these supplies at the City-wide Cleanup to help keep our community clean.”

Cuisine plays Bayou Jam on Saturday, Oct. 9

The City of Slidell’s Bayou Jam Fall Concert Series continues on Saturday, October 9, with a performance by Cuisine starting from 5 to 7 p.m. in Heritage Park. Admission is free.

“Bayou Jam concerts are a great way to celebrate as a community,” said Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer. “We invite you to come enjoy a free concert in Heritage Park with your family and friends and start your Saturday night right here in Slidell!”

No matter what your musical taste, Cuisine serves up something for everyone. Their musical recipe blends in some 70’s horn rock with some sharp 80’s sound, throws in a pinch of 50’s rock and roll and adds some 60’s horn music. The Bayou Jam Fall Concert Series continues on Saturday, Oct. 30, with the Bayou Jam Halloween Bash with Vince Vance and the Valiants from 5 to 7 p.m. Kids of all ages are encouraged to attend in the Halloween costumes for the biggest Halloween concert in the region! And the concert series concludes on Saturday, Nov. 6 with a patriotic concert with the Northshore Community Orchestra from 5 to 7 p.m.

Concert‐goers are invited to bring their chairs, blankets, ice chests and picnic baskets to the park to enjoy the free concerts. While the event is outdoors, attendees should follow all state mandated health and safety protocols and wear a mask if they go indoors to use the restroom facilities. Please note that park regulations prohibit pets in the park as well as the use of skateboards, scooters, barbeque grills and glass items.

Get your storm debris to the curb – city prepares for final pass through

Get your storm deberis to the curb. The City of Slidell and Coastal Environmental Services are preparing for the FINAL PASS THROUGH for all vegetative storm debris and construction and demolition storm debris. All this debris should be placed on the curb no later than Wednesday, October 6.
 
Please remember:
• Keep your vegetative storm debris and construction and demolition storm debris separated at the curb.
• Do not bag your vegetative debris. Put all leaves, twigs and branches in a pile at the curb. CES won’t be able to pick up any piles of vegetative debris that are not on the curb.
 
CES is also picking up debris at commercial locations inside the city limits of the City of Slidell. The debris MUST be in the city right-of-way in order for it to be picked up. If you have not done so, please get all of your storm debris to the curb ASAP. FEMA will only approve ONE PASS to pick up Commercial Storm Debris.

UPDATE: Boil Water Advisory LIFTED for two apartment complexes in Town Center

UPDATE – October 1, 2021: The Boil Water Advisory has been lifted. State laboratories have completed sample analysis and determined that the water is safe to drink.

The City of Slidell is issuing a Boil Water Advisory for two private apartment complexes located at 1303 Town Center and 1640 Town Center.
 
The addresses affected by the Boil Water Advisory were notified by the City of Slidell. The boil water advisory will be in effect until the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals analyzes all the water samples. It usually takes several days. Everyone will be notified once the Boil Water Advisory has been lifted.

Keep Slidell Beautiful receives Trash Receptacle Grant

Keep Slidell Beautiful was recently awarded a Trash Receptacle Grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful. The trash cans will be placed around Olde Towne Slidell.

The purpose of the Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) Trash Receptacle Mini-Grant Program is to encourage community action in the specific areas of litter abatement and environmental stewardship. This program has been developed to assist Keep America Beautiful affiliates in Louisiana in their efforts to provide attractive, durable and high-quality trash receptacles in public spaces by streamlining the grant application process. KLB will support programs that demonstrate a commitment to community behavioral change and environmental stewardship through strong partnerships with local municipalities and a clear plan for monitoring the program’s impact over time through the litter assessments described within this program.

Commercial debris collection begins Sept. 27

Coastal Environmental Services will begin collecting debris from commercial businesses starting on Monday, Sept. 27 inside the City of Slidell limits. Businesses should start placing debris on the curb immediately if they have not already done so as FEMA has only approved one collection for commercial debris.
Vegetative debris and construction/demolition debris must be separated in different piles. The debris must be at the curb of your business inside the city right-of-way; items in a parking lot and not on the curb will not be collected.
