Fat City Swing closes out Bayou Jam Spring Concert Series on May 10

The City of Slidell’s Bayou Jam Spring Concert Series concludes on Friday, May, 10, with a performance by the Fat City Swing Band starting at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

“Bayou Jam concerts have become a beloved tradition for our citizens that unites our city through the power of music and community,” said Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer. “I invite you to join us at Heritage Park for fantastic Friday nights filled with music and fun!”

Bayou Jam concerts will be held on Fridays from 6 to 8 p.m. Guests are invited to bring their chairs, blankets, ice chests and picnic baskets to the park to enjoy the free concerts. Olde Towne Pizza will be selling concessions for a nominal charge.

Fat City Swing Orchestra is comprised of some of the best jazz musicians in the New Orleans area. Jon and Wesley Mannino founded the band to keep their family’s musical legacy alive. This 16 piece big band plays all your favorite jazz and swing tunes. Community Development Block Grant

High School Band and Choir Showcase Bayou Jam this Friday, April 19th

Get ready for another exciting season of great Bayou Jam concerts in Heritage Park! The spring concert series continues this  Friday, April 19th with a performance by Slidell’s High School Band and Choir Showcase starting at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

• Clifton Brown and the Rusty Bucket Band – Friday, April 5
• Slidell’s Highschool Band and Choir Showcase – Friday, April 19
• Some Enchanted Evening with the Northshore Community Orchestra – Sunday, April 28 (5 to 7 p.m.)

Carey Street Traffic Change

The City of Slidell advises motorists that Carey St. will be one-way traffic, northbound, from Robert St. to Cousin St. beginning April 17th. This change will include on-street, angled parking adjacent to the travel lane.

April 11th Storm Recovery Update

Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer met with other City and Parish officials and representatives from the Slidell Police Department, Fire District 1, Acadian Ambulance and CLECO. Here’s some notes from the meeting this morning.
Team Slidell is in recovery mode. City crews are clearing roads, assessing damaged buildings, drainage choke points, water wells and pump stations.
CLECO reports that they have 400 crews in the Slidell area. They are assessing and trying to restore power to the 30,000 still without power in St. Tammany. Citizens are encouraged to check the CLECO outage map at https://myaccount.cleco.com/Portal/#/PreOutages for updates.
The city’s water system never lost pressure. Water service inside the city limits remains safe to use and consume.
Fritchie Park (905 W. Howze Beach Road) will serve as a distribution center. IMPORTANT: enter Fritchie Park from Howze Beach Road.

• water should be available for distribution at 9 am
• hot meals will be available at 11:00 am
• ice should be available for distribution at noon
