Calling All Artists! White Linen and Lagniappe Forms Are Now Available

Calling all artists!

The City of Slidell, Louisiana is looking for artists to participate in the 8th annual White Linen and Lagniappe Night on Saturday, August 9, 2025. It is free for artists to participate.

Artists who wish to participate can download the White Linen and Lagniappe Artist Registration Form from the city’s website, www.myslidell.com. Artists will also have to opportunity to submit digital images for consideration of having their work featured in Arts Evening publicity. Submissions should be sent to culturalaffairs@cityofslidell.org.

Deadline for forms and art submissions is Thursday, July 28, 2025.

Slidell Welcomes Dr. John Fitzmorris as the Acting Curator for the Slidell Museum

Slidell Mayor Bill Borchert is pleased to announce that Dr. John Fitzmorris will serve as the acting curator at the Slidell Museum this summer. Dr. Fitzmorris will oversee operations and continue the museum’s mission of collecting, researching, preserving, and sharing Slidell’s history.

“I am honored to serve as the acting curator of the Slidell Museum this summer,” said Dr. Fitzmorris. “Greg Scott, the past curator, did an outstanding job with the museum, and I look forward to working with Greg to continue making the Slidell Museum a great place for both residents and visitors to explore.”

A native of New Orleans, Dr. Fitzmorris brings a wealth of historical expertise to the Slidell Museum. He is a full-time Instructor of History at the University of New Orleans. He holds a B.A. from Louisiana State University (L.S.U.), an M.A. in Religious Studies from Loyola University New Orleans, an M.A. in History from the University of New Orleans, and a Ph.D. in History from the University of Southern Mississippi. His dissertation, “Bearing the Double Burden: Chaplains and the Problem of Combat in Vietnam,” is slated for future publication.

Dr. Fitzmorris is a recipient of the George F. Windell Prize for Outstanding Thesis. He currently teaches a diverse range of subjects, including U.S. History, Louisiana History, Irish History, the History of the Vietnam War, and The Civil War and Reconstruction. He also serves as moderator for the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society at UNO and conducts oral interviews with war veterans for the Library of Congress Veterans Oral History Program.

Summer hours are Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum will have limited hours during the weeks of July 13 and July 20, open only on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.

The Slidell Museum is located at 2020 First Street in Olde Towne Slidell. Groups are welcome but are encouraged to schedule a tour in advance. City Offices Closed July 4 for Independence Day

Slidell Mayor Bill Borchert and the members of the Slidell City Council would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Independence Day!

In observance of Independence Day, city offices will be closed on Friday, July 4, and will reopen during regular hours on Monday, July 7. Essential personnel will remain on duty, should an emergency arise. If Slidell residents experience problems with their water or sewer service, they should call the City Services 24-hour emergency hotline at (985) 643-6140.

Boil Water Advisory Issued for Part of Westchester Estates

The City of Slidell has issued a Boil Water Advisory as a precaution due to a loss of water pressure during repairs to a water main. The following addresses in Westchester Estates are affected:

  • 3735 Myrtle St.
  • 3741 Myrtle St.
  • 3747 Myrtle St.

Notices have been posted at the affected addresses. The advisory will remain in effect until the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals analyzes water samples, which typically takes several days. Residents will be notified once the advisory has been lifted.

Artist Terrance Osborne Jurors ‘Fragments of Imagination’ Exhibit Opening June 20

The Olde Towne Arts Commission (OTAC) and the City of Slidell invite the public to the opening reception of “Fragments of Imagination,” a new exhibit featuring local and regional artists. The exhibition will be jurored by the renowned artist Terrance Osborne.

The reception will take place on Friday, June 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the George Dunbar Gallery inside the Slidell Cultural Center at City Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

“We are incredibly honored to have an artist of Terrance Osborne’s caliber serving as our juror for this exhibition,” said Slidell Mayor Bill Borchert. “This is a remarkable opportunity for local artists to showcase their work and receive feedback from one of Louisiana’s most distinguished artists. I look forward to meeting all the artists at the opening reception on Friday.”

Osborne is celebrated for his vibrant, colorful depictions of New Orleans culture and architecture. His distinctive style has earned him international recognition, with his work featured in multiple official Jazz and Heritage Festival posters. Osborne’s art has captured the attention of major brands, leading to successful collaborations with Raising Cane’s, Nike, the NBA, Coca-Cola, and other national companies. His pieces are collected worldwide and have been featured in numerous galleries and museums across the country.

During the “Fragments of Imagination” opening reception, attendees will have the opportunity to meet Terrance Osborne and the participating artists. Awards will be announced during the reception. The exhibition continues through July 25, 2025. Gallery hours are by appointment only, Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
