Amanda Shaw and the Cute Guys Perform Sunday at Bayou Jam
After last weekend’s Bayou Jam concert with Flow Tribe was canceled due to rain, the City of Slidell is hoping for sunny skies this Sunday, Oct. 11, for an evening of live music with Amanda Shaw and the Cute Guys. The concert is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. at Heritage Park and admission is free.
“We are looking forward to welcoming Amanda Shaw back to Heritage Park this Sunday for another great Bayou Jam concert,” said Slidell Mayor Randy Fandal. “I hope everyone comes out to enjoy an evening of great Louisiana music.”
Shaw first performed at Bayou Jam in March 2003 when she was just 15 years old. Since then, she has returned to the concert series numerous times, becoming a longtime favorite among Bayou Jam audiences.
A Louisiana-born fiddle player and performer, Shaw blends Cajun tradition with the jazz, blues, funk and rock ’n’ roll influences of her native New Orleans. She began playing violin as a child and learned Cajun music at local fais do-dos, where seasoned musicians helped shape the sound she continues to bring to the stage.
By age 15, Shaw had signed a record deal with Rounder Records, appeared in two Disney films and was featured in the documentary Hurricane on the Bayou. She has since performed on national stages, including Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, the Today Show and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. She has also shared the stage with artists including one of her idols, Cyndi Lauper.
A Louisiana Music Hall of Fame inductee and Big Easy Award winner for Best Female Entertainer, Shaw has released nine albums and EPs and continues to bring Louisiana’s rich musical heritage to audiences around the world with her energetic and modern sound.
Guests are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy an evening of live music with family and friends. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Admission is free and open to the public.
The fall series continues with Felix and Fingers Dueling Pianos on Oct. 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Heritage Park and concludes on Nov. 8 with a special Veterans Day Concert featuring the Northshore Community Orchestra starting at 4 p.m. at the Slidell Municipal Auditorium. Doors open at 3:30 p.m., and open seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission is free.
The postponed Bayou Jam concert featuring Flow Tribe will be rescheduled for the spring. The city will announce a new date as soon as one is finalized.
