UPDATE: Boil Water Notice lifted for 105 Tiger Drive

UPDATE: The Boil Water Advisory has been lifted.

The City of Slidell has issued a Boil Water Advisory as a precaution due to a loss of pressure from repairing a water main for the following address:

• 105 Tiger Drive

Notices have been posted for the affected addresses by the City of Slidell. The Boil Water Advisory will be in effect until the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals analyzes all the water samples. It usually takes several days. Everyone will be notified once the advisory has been lifted.

Bayou Jam with Typically Booked plays on Friday, Sept. 27

Join us on Friday, September 27 for a Bayou Jam concert with Typically Booked starting at 5 p.m. Admission is free.

“Bayou Jam concerts are a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together,” said Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer. “We encourage everyone to bring their families and friends to enjoy a night of great music in Heritage Park. It’s the perfect way to kick off your weekend right here in Slidell.”

The schedule for the 2024 fall Bayou Jam concert series:
• Friday, Sept. 13 – Big Al and the Heavyweights
• Friday, Sept. 27 – Typically Booked
• Friday, Oct. 11 – The New Orleans Mystics

Typically Booked is a dynamic six-piece cover band known for their high-energy performances, featuring captivating vocals, layered harmonies, and engaging saxophone solos. Their versatility spans a wide variety of genres and dance favorites, from the 1950s to today’s hits. While they cover multiple generations, the band focuses on upbeat millennial classics from the ’90s and ’00s, making them a favorite at celebrations throughout the New Orleans area. They’ve performed for notable organizations such as Ochsner, the American Cancer Society, and even for the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans on game day. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, ice chests, and picnic baskets to enjoy these free, family-friendly events in the beautiful setting of Heritage Park.

The Bayou Jam Concert Series is produced by the City of Slidell’s Department of Cultural & Public Affairs with support from the Parks & Recreation and Public Operations departments. These concerts are part of Olde Towne Slidell Main Street and the Louisiana Cultural District, sponsored by the City’s Cultural Season Sponsors, including Edge of the Lake Magazine, Inside Northside, The Slidell Independent, Slidell Savings Magazine, and Sophisticated Woman.

Fremaux Avenue westbound turning lane closed for crosswalk construction

Starting Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, the westbound turning lane on Fremaux Avenue will be closed for approximately two months while the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) installs a crosswalk that will connect Heritage Park to Olde Towne Slidell and allow pedestrians to safely cross Front Street and Fremaux Avenue.

Bayou Jam concert to be rescheduled due to Hurricane Francine

The Bayou Jam concert featuring Big Al and the Heavyweights scheduled for Friday, Sept. 13, has been cancelled due to Hurricane Francine and possible electrical issues caused by the flooding of Heritage Park. The concert will be rescheduled for a later date.

Slidell Updates Annual Hazard Mitigation Plan

Under the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (42 USC 5165), a mitigation plan is required for the City of Slidell to qualify for Federal mitigation funds. On September 8, 2020, the City of Slidell adopted the 2020 St. Tammany Parish Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, which includes mitigation actions intended to reduce the City’s risks from hazards.

 

The City’s 2024 Annual Update of Hazard Mitigation Plan is just one part of Slidell’s Community Rating System recertification process; this required annual update report highlights our progress in implementing the City’s mitigation actions. All of our City departments and staff have been working together to make Slidell a more resilient and safer place for our residents to live and for our businesses to thrive. This hard work has paid off with a Community Rating System score of 6 and that score has resulted in lowered flood insurance costs for property owners throughout the city.

 

For ongoing credit under the Community Rating System, the annual update was presented to the Slidell City Council on September 10th and made available to the public in the City of Slidell Planning Department at 250 Bouscaren Street in Suite 203 or on the City of Slidell’s Hazard Mitigation web page at http://myslidell.com/planning/#tab-id-5.

How to Separate Storm Debris at the Curb

Now that Hurricane Francine has passed and citizens are cleaning their properties, it’s important to know how to separate your debris for curbside pickup.

Separate debris into different piles:

  • Household trash
  • Vegetative debris – DO NOT BAG!
  • Construction and demolition debris
  • Appliances and white goods
  • Electronics
  • Household hazardous wastes

Things to remember:

  • Keep debris out of the roadway and out of the line of sight for motorists.
  • Do not bag your vegetative debris. Put all leaves and branches in a pile at the curb.
  • Do not place debris in ditches because this could lead to flooding during rain, nor should it be placed on street corners because this could cause line-of-sight issues.
  • Do not mix non-storm-related yard waste or bulk trash with storm debris.

Hurricane Francine Update – 9/12/24, 6:30 a.m.

Good morning, Slidell!
Last night, there were reports of street flooding and some fallen trees and limbs in the roadways. Palm Lake, Camellia Drive, Chamalé and Heritage Park areas still have standing water.
We don’t have any reports of any homes or businesses flooding.
CLECO reports that 9235 customers are without power in the Slidell area. We will give updates when we get them.
Please stay off the roads so that the linemen can start working on restoring power, city crews can remove debris, and first responders can move throughout the city.

Sandbag Depot opens at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10 near Heritage Park

UPDATE (9/10/24, 2 p.m.): The self-serve sandbag depot will be open from 1 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, and will reopen on Wednesday, Sept. 11 from 7 a.m.  to 12 p.m. 
In preparation for Tropical Storm Francine, the City of Slidell will open a self-service sandbag depot on Tuesday, September 10, starting at 1 p.m. at the parking lot on the corner of Bayou Lane and Pennsylvania Avenue near Heritage Park.
 
St. Tammany Parish Government had also has self-service sandbag locations open at these following locations near Slidell:
• Airport Road Public Works Barn (34783 Grantham College Drive, Slidell)
• Fritchie Public Works Barn (63119 LA-1090, Pearl River)
 
“I want to assure our citizens that Team Slidell is ready for Francine,” said Mayor Cromer. “All of our pumping stations are working and will be monitored around the clock. City crews are cleaning out storm drains and catch basins and making sure that drainage around the city is clear.”
 
Citizens are encouraged to check their storm drains near their homes to make sure they are cleared of debris and to clear their yards of any items that could be blown around by heavy winds.
