The eighth annual White Linen and Lagniappe takes place on Saturday, August 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Olde Towne Slidell. This family-friendly event features an evening of art, live entertainment, fine and casual dining, cool drinks, unique shopping and lots of lagniappe. Several bands will be playing during the event and many of Olde Towne’s offices, restaurants, bars, shops, and stores will be open during the event to showcase their businesses.

This collaborative event is hosted by the City of Slidell, Olde Towne Slidell Main Street, Slidell Historic Antique Association and the Olde Towne Merchants Association.

Calling all artists!

The City of Slidell, Louisiana is looking for artists to participate in the 8th annual White Linen and Lagniappe Night on Saturday, August 9, 2025. It is free for artists to participate.

Artists who wish to participate can download the White Linen and Lagniappe Artist Registration Form from the city’s website, www.myslidell.com. Artists will also have to opportunity to submit digital images for consideration of having their work featured in Arts Evening publicity. Submissions should be sent to culturalaffairs@cityofslidell.org.

Deadline for forms and art submissions is Thursday, July 28, 2025.

Slidell Mayor Bill Borchert is pleased to announce that Dr. John Fitzmorris will serve as the acting curator at the Slidell Museum this summer. Dr. Fitzmorris will oversee operations and continue the museum’s mission of collecting, researching, preserving, and sharing Slidell’s history.

“I am honored to serve as the acting curator of the Slidell Museum this summer,” said Dr. Fitzmorris. “Greg Scott, the past curator, did an outstanding job with the museum, and I look forward to working with Greg to continue making the Slidell Museum a great place for both residents and visitors to explore.”

A native of New Orleans, Dr. Fitzmorris brings a wealth of historical expertise to the Slidell Museum. He is a full-time Instructor of History at the University of New Orleans. He holds a B.A. from Louisiana State University (L.S.U.), an M.A. in Religious Studies from Loyola University New Orleans, an M.A. in History from the University of New Orleans, and a Ph.D. in History from the University of Southern Mississippi. His dissertation, “Bearing the Double Burden: Chaplains and the Problem of Combat in Vietnam,” is slated for future publication.

Dr. Fitzmorris is a recipient of the George F. Windell Prize for Outstanding Thesis. He currently teaches a diverse range of subjects, including U.S. History, Louisiana History, Irish History, the History of the Vietnam War, and The Civil War and Reconstruction. He also serves as moderator for the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society at UNO and conducts oral interviews with war veterans for the Library of Congress Veterans Oral History Program.

Summer hours are Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum will have limited hours during the weeks of July 13 and July 20, open only on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.

The Slidell Museum is located at 2020 First Street in Olde Towne Slidell. Groups are welcome but are encouraged to schedule a tour in advance. In observance of Independence Day, city offices will be closed on Friday, July 4, and will reopen during regular hours on Monday, July 7. Essential personnel will remain on duty, should an emergency arise. If Slidell residents experience problems with their water or sewer service, they should call the City Services 24-hour emergency hotline at (985) 643-6140.

The City of Slidell has issued a Boil Water Advisory as a precaution due to a loss of water pressure during repairs to a water main. The following addresses in Westchester Estates are affected:

Notices have been posted at the affected addresses. The advisory will remain in effect until the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals analyzes water samples, which typically takes several days. Residents will be notified once the advisory has been lifted.
