The City of Slidell presents a new exhibition in the Slidell Cultural Center at City Hall, “The Light”, an exhibition of works by four artists using light as a central element to express their unique visions. “The Light” features the works of Christine Bandera, LaNelle Landry, Robert LaBranche and Martin Needom. This unique exhibit opens on Friday, May 28, 2021 with an artist’s reception from 5 to 7 p.m. at Slidell Cultural Center. An artist’s talk is scheduled during the opening reception and light refreshments will be provided. The exhibit will be on display through Friday, July 9, 2021.

Gallery hours are Wednesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Viewings are by appointment only by calling the Department of Cultural & Public Affairs at (985) 646-4375. Slidell Movie Nights returns to Heritage Park this summer with Star Wars, Lion King, The Sandlot and Ghostbusters

Grab your lawn chairs and picnic blankets and head on out to Heritage Park this summer when the City of Slidell presents Slidell Movie Nights on select Saturday evenings this summer on May 29, June 12, July 10 and July 24. The movies will begin at sunset, at roughly 8:30 p.m. Admission is free.

People are invited to bring their ice chests (and bug spray!) to the park to enjoy the free movies. Bring your appetites too, because concessions from Olde Towne Slidell Main Street and Old School Eats Food Truck will also be available for a nominal charge.

The 2021 summer movie lineup includes:

May 29 – Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope
June 12 – The Lion King (2019)
July 10 – The Sandlot
July 24 – Ghostbusters

“We do try to pick movies that both adults and children will enjoy and that are appropriate for families to watch together,” said Alex Carollo, Director of the city’s Department of Cultural & Public Affairs.” If you want to know if a certain movie is suitable for your children, you can visit websites such as Kids-in-Mind and Common Sense Media for more information about objectionable content in each movie.”

Slidell Movie Nights began as a Leadership Northshore 2014 class project and the City of Slidell continues this popular outdoor event for families to continue to enjoy each summer.

CDBG Public Hearing

The City of Slidell is requesting public comments and will hold a virtual meeting on the following Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) plans:

  • 2020-2024 Consolidated Plan. This is a five-year plan that identifies community development needs and describes how the City will use CDBG funds to address these needs. The City proposes the following goals: Public Facility Improvements; Foster Coordination with Service Networks; Urgent Needs Public Service Activities; and Urgent Needs Public Facility Improvements.
  • 2020 Annual Action Plan. Slidell received $177,781 in CDBG funds for 2020. This plan identifies the specific projects the City will fund with this money. The City proposes to do improvements at Ducksworth Park, including a new multi-use field, new walking path, and new LED lights.
  • 2021 Annual Action Plan. Slidell received $184,548 in CDBG funds for 2021. This plan identifies the specific projects the City will fund with this money. The City proposes to install LED lights at Possum Hollow Park.
