Old Town Street Parking Closures RESCHEDULED for Dec 13th and 14th

***UPDATE: Due to an unexpected overnight rain storm, the striping in old town that was scheduled for today, Friday the 10th, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, December 14. The striping work originally scheduled for Monday Dec 13th will still occur on that date. Please see the below maps with the revised dates.  ***

Street parking will be closed for several streets in Olde Towne Slidell this week while contractors add parallel parking striping to the roadways.
On Monday, Dec. 13th, sections of Cousin and First will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for striping and on  Tuesday, Dec. 14th, sections of Robert Street and Carey Street. Please see the maps below for more information.

UPDATE: 2nd Annual Christmas Golf Cart Parade rolls Sunday, Dec. 5 in Olde Towne Slidell – see the parade route and street closures here

Mayor Greg Cromer is inviting the community to join the City of Slidell for the second annual Olde Towne Slidell Community Christmas Golf Cart Parade on Sunday, December 5 at 5 p.m.

“We were humbled by the crowds of people who came out and supported the first Christmas parade. Olde Towne was packed!” said Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer. “Christmas is my favorite time of year and I wanted to kick-off the holiday season with an old-fashioned, small town, community Christmas parade. It’s free for everyone, so I encourage the community to join us. It will be a great time in Olde Towne Slidell!”

The parade will be led by the Slidell Sync Lawn Chair Brigade, a premier dancing group that promises to feature flashy holiday-themed lawn chairs in a very merry way, followed by decorated golf carts andand Santa and Mrs. Claus riding on an antique fire truck spreading their magical cheer to all.

Everyone from the community is encouraged to participate. To sign up to participate, go to the City of Slidell’s website at MySlidell.com to fill out the parade form and return to the Department of Cultural & Public Affairs. Registration is free and interested spectators are encouraged to mark their calendars. Deadline for submitting forms is Monday, Nov. 29.

Due to public safety, on the day of the parade the streets in Olde Towne will start to close at 6 a.m. Drivers will be able to enter Olde Towne Slidell at the intersections of Cousin Street and Sgt. Alfred Drive and Front Street and Carey Street until 3 p.m. Olde Towne Slidell will also be a no parking zone from 3 until 8 p.m. No vehicles will be allowed to enter or exit the route. All vehicles should be off the streets during this time. Refer to the shaded area in purple on the map to see the no parking zone.

NOTICE for PUBLIC HEARING/REDISTRICTING WORKSHOP

The Slidell City Council will hold a redistricting workshop at 5:30 p.m. on November 29, 2021 at the Slidell City Council Chambers, 2045 Second Street, Suite 319, Slidell, Louisiana 70458. The purpose of the meeting is to review one or more election district plans following the 2020 census counts and discuss any further options to redistrict the boundaries to rebalance the district populations.

The meeting is open to the public and will be for informational and discussion purposes only. No votes will be taken.

Accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities and non-English speaking individuals provided that three-day notice of received by the Council Administrator. The Council Office phone number is 985-646-4307.

During a Boil Water Advisory, residents should boil tap water for one minute and let cool before consuming.

We are looking for decorated golf carts to be a part of the parade. There is no cost to enter the parade. See the form below for more information.

Final Debris Collection Pass is Wednesday, Nov. 17

Since Hurricane Ida, the City of Slidell has been continuously removing debris, approximately 128,000 cubic yards, from residential neighborhoods and public rights-of-way under its debris removal program. This accounts for nearly 4.5 cubic yards collected per resident.

The City of Slidell is scheduled to begin the final debris collection pass from Hurricane Ida on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. Residents must have disaster-generated debris placed on the curb by this date as contracted collection crews will conduct one final sweep of all city roads. Residents should keep debris out of the roadway and out of the line of sight for motorists. Debris should not be placed in ditches because this could lead to flooding during rain, nor should it be placed on street corners because this could cause line-of-sight issues. Only debris that is a direct result of Hurricane Ida will be removed during this pass. Please do not mix non-storm-related yard waste or bulk trash with storm debris. Mixed piles of storm debris and non-storm debris will not be removed.

To expedite the final pass, please ensure debris placed on the curb is segregated into like piles. If debris is not on the curb when collection crews pass through your area, it will not be collected under the City’s debris removal program.

Any green trees cut down after this press release (November 4, 2021) will need the required permits from the City of Slidell permits office and the removal of the debris will be the responsibility of the property owner.

Vince Vance and the Valiants throw Halloween Party in Heritage Park at Bayou Jam concert on Oct. 30

Get ready for the biggest Halloween party in Slidell! Vince Vance and the Valiants return to Heritage Park on Saturday, October 30 for the City of Slidell’s Bayou Jam Halloween Bash from 5 to 7 p.m. Kids of all ages are encouraged to attend in their Halloween costumes. Admission is free!

“Vince Vance and the Valiants has become a Halloween tradition here in Slidell,” said Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer. “Vince has been doing this for our community since 2005 and I invite everyone to come out and have a great time in Heritage Park!”

Vince Vance and the Valiants are a country, pop, and rock ‘n’ roll group from New Orleans. This year, they are celebrating their 50th anniversary of performing. The group is known primarily for the single “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, which charted on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts on six separate occasions. In 2005, Country Music Television proclaimed “All I Want for Christmas is You” the No. 6 Merriest Video of All Time.

Performances by Vince Vance and the Valiants are never short on entertainment, with costume changes, comic skits, and a vaudeville flair that make Vance’s shows unique and highly memorable. Vance is also widely recognized for his single “I am New Orleans,” a song composed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2010.

The Bayou Jam Fall Concert Series concludes on Saturday, Nov. 6 with a patriotic concert with the Northshore Community Orchestra from 4 to 6 p.m.

Concert‐goers are invited to bring their chairs, blankets, ice chests and picnic baskets to the park to enjoy the free concerts. While the event is outdoors, attendees should follow all state mandated health and safety protocols and wear a mask if they go indoors to use the restroom facilities. Please note that park regulations prohibit pets in the park as well as the use of skateboards, scooters, barbeque grills and glass items.

Slidell upgrades water billing software for online payments

The City of Slidell has upgraded to a new and more convenient billing software allowing you to pay your water bill online, set up autopay and avoiding online convenience fees, and paying with a credit or debit card in the water department. You can still pay with a check through the mail or use the water bill drop box located at City Hall.

Keep Slidell Beautiful and Director bring Slidell top honors from Keep Louisiana Beautiful

Keep Slidell Beautiful and Director Trey Brownfield were both recently recognized by the State of Louisiana at the 2021 Keep Louisiana Beautiful Conference.

Keep Slidell Beautiful received the Circle of Excellence Award and Brownfield was recognized as the Outstanding Affiliate Director for 2021.

Brownfield was hired as the Director of Keep Slidell Beautiful for the City of Slidell in 2019. In that short time, he has grown the affiliation and motivated the community to get more involved in Keep Slidell Beautiful through awareness campaigns and community committees. He has raised over $200,000 through fundraisers, sponsorships, and grant funding.

Keep Slidell Beautiful picks up over 50 tons of waste each year and facilitates over 4,000 hours of community service. Since becoming Director, Brownfield not only continued the Golf Tournament, Annual Tree Giveaway and two City-wide cleanups, he also successfully added new programs such as Community Recycling Days, Earth Week Awareness Events and the popular Christmas on Front light display which replaced holiday lights and decorations that were lost in Hurricane Katrina.

Brownfield was also recently awarded the Pearl Williams Superior Leadership Award from the Slidell Republicans Women’s Club in recognition of his leadership and involvement in the community.

City offices closed Oct. 11 for Columbus Day

In observation of Columbus Day, city offices will be closed on Monday, October 11, 2021. Offices will reopen during regular hours on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021.

Essential personnel will remain on duty, should an emergency arise. If Slidell residents experience problems with their water or sewer service, they should call the City Services 24-hour emergency hotline at (985) 643-6140.
