In preparation for A Storybook Type of Day event, the City of Slidell is announcing that Heritage Park, the boat launch and roads immediately outside of the park will be closed in conjunction with the event.

Heritage Park and the boat launch will close to the public at 9 p.m. on Friday, April 5, and will remain closed until 6 a.m. on Sunday, April 7. Both entrances to Heritage Park on Bayou Lane will be closed (from Palmettos to Pennsylvania Avenue) to traffic. The public will be able to launch their boats (for no charge) at the Slidell Marine – Marina located at 36440 Old Bayou Liberty Road by Nathan’s Restaurant. Please park vehicles/trailers along the road on Bayou Liberty Road (LA433).

Hop into your favorite story book costume and join Kids in Development Slidell (K.I.D.S.) for A Story Book Kind of Day, Saturday, April 6, 2024 in Slidell’s Heritage Park. The free, family-friendly, storybook-themed event takes place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is inclusive to all ages and abilities.

For the second annual event, themed “Pirates and Princess”, A Storybook Kind Of Day promises to be a delightful experience for families, featuring engaging activities, storytelling sessions, and interactive learning opportunities, all centered around the theme of pirates and princesses. Attendees can look forward to a day packed with daring adventures and royal charm while contributing to a meaningful cause — ensuring the safety of infants and young children in St. Tammany Parish.

Funds raised from this event, along with donations from supporters, will enable K.I.D.S. to provide free car seats through certified installation specialists to those facing financial challenges and serve children across St. Tammany Parish.

Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer and the members of the Slidell City Council would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter!

In observance of the Easter holiday, city offices will be closed on Friday, March 29, for Good Friday and will reopen during regular hours on Monday, April 1, 2024.

Essential personnel will remain on duty, should an emergency arise. If Slidell residents experience problems with their water or sewer service, they should call the City Services 24-hour emergency hotline at (985) 643-6140.

Bayou Jam is going country!

The spring concert series returns on Friday, April 5, with a performance by Clifton Brown and the Rusty Bucket Band starting at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

Bayou Jam concerts will be held on Fridays from 6 to 8 p.m. Guests are invited to bring their chairs, blankets, ice chests and picnic baskets to the park to enjoy the free concerts.

Clifton Brown and the Rusty Bucket Band plays all your favorite country hits from the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s plus some of their own original songs. They’ve opened for some of country’s biggest stars, including Mickey Gilley, John Conlee, Lorrie Morgan, Doug Stone, Jamie O’Neal, Ronnie Milsap and late Merle Haggard to name only a few. The band consists of six of South Louisiana’s finest musicians including Clifton Brown (lead vocalist/acoustic guitarist), Chris Smith (bassist), Greg Manchester (lead guitarist/vocalist), Danny Harrell (pedal steel guitarist), Paul Golmon (drummer) and Brenda Harrell (female vocalist). The Bayou Jam concert featuring Fat City Swing scheduled for March 22, 2024, has been cancelled due to weather. The concert will be rescheduled for a later date.

Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer was joined by members of the Slidell City Council, elected officials, city administration and the community for the Groundbreaking of the Slidell Skatepark and Slidell Pickleball Courts on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

The Slidell Skatepark – designed by Pillar Design Studios, LLC – will be 14,000 square feet and designed for both novice and pro skaters. The total cost of the project is roughly $875,000 and will be constructed by Saucier Construction Co. The project should be completed by October 2024.

The Slidell Pickleball Courts will consist of 12 new outdoor courts. Kyle & Associates is the design engineer and the courts will be constructed by Cobalt Construction, Inc. The total cost of the project is roughly $1 million and it should also be completed by October 2024.

Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer is inviting all businesses to join him for some coffee and conversation on Tuesday, March 26, at 7:30 a.m. at the Slidell Auditorium.

Slidell Memorial Hospital | Ochsner invites you to Slidell Memorial Hospital | Ochsner Public Forum on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 6:30 pm at the Slidell Municipal Auditorium.

SMH Chief Executive Officer Sandy Badinger and Ochsner Regional Chief Executive Officer Dr. Timothy Riddell will have an open discussion with community members and answer questions about the Slidell Memorial Hospital | Ochsner.

In preparation for the Olde Towne Merchant Association’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, several streets in the Olde Towne area will start closing at 6:00 a.m.

For public safety, any vehicle that is left parked along the parade route after 6 a.m. on Sunday, March 10, will be towed at the owner’s expense.

This includes sections of:

  • First St.
  • Erlanger Ave.
  • Fremaux Ave.
  • Teddy Ave.
  • Front St.
  • Carey St.
  • Cousin St.
  • Robert St.
  • Brakefield St.
  • Guzman St.

  • Mayfield Ave.
  • Old Spanish Trail
  • Lee St.
  • College St.
  • William Tell St.
  • Ciruti St.

The Slidell Police Department will begin closing down streets along the parade route to vehicular traffic at a later time. Please do not congregate in the streets until all the streets are closed.

Fat City Swing Orchestra is comprised of some of the best jazz musicians in the New Orleans area. Jon and Wesley Mannino founded the band to keep their family’s musical legacy alive. 4/6/24, 10:00AM UPDATE: The Boil Water Notice has been lifted.

The City of Slidell has issued a Boil Water Advisory as a precaution due to a loss of pressure from a scheduled change out of a 10” water valve for the following addresses:

• 1430 Old Spanish Trail
• 3173 East Terrace Ave
• 2700-2777 Public Street
• 2655-2780 Ash
• 1300-1420 Maple

Notices have been posted for the affected addresses by the City of Slidell. The Boil Water Advisory will be in effect until the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals analyzes all the water samples. It usually takes several days. Everyone will be notified once the advisory has been lifted.
