The City of Slidell announces that it’s time for residents to renew their biennial golf cart permits. To maintain authorization for operating golf carts on city streets, all existing permit holders must schedule a reinspection of their golf carts and obtain an updated permit sticker by June 15, 2025.

The inspection process remains unchanged, with appointments required at one of the city’s two authorized inspection facilities:

Coach’s Carts
39173 Hwy. 190 E.
Slidell, LA 70461
(985) 249-8731

Northshore Custom Carts
700 Old Spanish Trail
Slidell, LA 70458
(985) 847-2561

These businesses are certified to perform golf cart inspections and issue permits on behalf of the City of Slidell. Golf carts must display the permit sticker applied by the inspector once the golf cart has passed inspection. Residents who do not currently have an existing registration can also obtain one at the same inspection facilities. The biennial permit fee remains at $100.

Residents are reminded that golf cart operation is restricted to streets with posted speed limits of 25 mph or less, in accordance with city ordinances. During the renewal process, owners must review and acknowledge their understanding of the golf cart ordinance (Code of Ordinances, Chapter 27, Article V, Ordinance No. 4117). This requirement ensures all operators remain informed about current regulations and safety requirements.

To schedule an inspection or obtain additional information about the renewal process, residents can contact Northshore Custom Carts at (985) 847-2561 or Coach’s Carts at (985) 249-8731.

On Monday, September 22, 2025, Slidell Mayor Bill Borchert was joined by city officials and community leaders for the groundbreaking of the Dellwood Drainage Pump Station Improvements Project. This project marks another step in the administration’s ongoing commitment to improving drainage and protecting residents and businesses from flooding.

The $5.1 million project – funded by the Louisiana Office of Community Development through the Louisiana Watershed Initiative (LWI) – will include the installation of mechanical bar screens in front of the existing Dellwood Drainage Pump Station intake basin. These screens will capture debris and prevent clogs during heavy rain, helping reduce flooding in the area.

The Louisiana Office of Community Development–Disaster Recovery funded the project through the state’s $1.2 billion CDBG-MIT grant, part of LWI’s Round 1 funding for local and regional projects. To date, OCD-DR has approved 28 Round 1 projects, all designed as implementation-ready, low-risk flood mitigation efforts with no potential negative impacts on surrounding areas. Meyer Engineering is serving as the design consultant, and RNGD is the project contractor.

“This groundbreaking is our third ceremony in three weeks for stormwater management and drainage improvements for our residents and businesses in south Slidell,” said Mayor Borchert. “We recently broke ground on the new Riecke Retention Pond off Pontchartrain Drive, the automatic flood gate and SCADA system near the Lee Street Water Basin, and now the improvements at the Dellwood Drainage Pump Station. I would like to thank everyone who worked on this project to help protect Slidell’s homes and businesses from flooding.”

On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Slidell Mayor Bill Borchert was joined by Councilman David Dunham (District B), city officials and community leaders for the ribbon cutting of the City’s new Automated Floodgate and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Monitoring System near the Lee Street Drainage Basin. This marks a significant step forward in Slidell’s ongoing commitment to modernizing stormwater infrastructure and protecting residents and businesses from flooding.

Work on the $250,000 project – funded through the Louisiana State Appropriations Budget secured by former Senator Sharon Hewitt – involved retrofitting an existing manual floodgate with a motorized actuator, enabling rapid automatic operation during heavy rain events. In tandem, a SCADA system was installed to give Public Operations staff the ability to remotely monitor and control gate positions in real time, vastly improving response times during storm events. GIS Engineering was the design consultant and Gill’s Crane & Dozer Services was the contractor for this project.

“This ribbon cutting is our second ceremony in just two weeks celebrating stormwater management improvements for our citizens and businesses in south Slidell,” said Mayor Bill Borchert. “We recently broke ground on the new Riecke Retention Pond off Pontchartrain Drive, and today we’re proud to bring this automated floodgate and SCADA system online. I also would like to thank to Senator Hewitt for securing the funding that made this project possible.”
