Hurricane Season Begins June 1st, Do You Have Flood Insurance?
Hurricane Season begins June 1, and now is the time to make sure you’re protected from flooding.
The City of Slidell participates in FEMA’s Community Rating System (CRS), which means residents with NFIP flood insurance policies currently receive a 20% discount on their flood insurance thanks to the City’s proactive floodplain management efforts.
As Hurricane Season approaches, the City would like to remind residents of the following:
- Flood insurance is recommended for both homeowners and renters.
- Renters can obtain flood insurance coverage for personal belongings and contents.
- Most new flood insurance policies require a 30-day waiting period before becoming effective.
- New policies cannot be initiated once a named storm has entered or formed within the Gulf.
Flooding can happen anytime and anywhere — don’t wait until a storm is approaching to prepare.
