City Opens Sand Bag Distribution Site on Oct. 8
The U.S. National Weather Service New Orleans Louisiana afternoon update looks better for Slidell. The storm’s path has shifted a little further east, so the chance of tropical-storm winds is now mostly limited to the far eastern edge of St. Tammany Parish near I-59. Rainfall is expected to stay fairly light, and the latest forecast does not show a tornado threat for the area. The biggest concern is still coastal flooding, with water levels around the tidal lakes possibly rising 1 to 3 feet from late Thursday through Saturday. The main time to watch for local impacts is Friday and Saturday.
Out of caution, the City of Slidell will open a temporary self-service sandbag distribution site on Thursday, Oct. 8 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Heritage Park parking lot located at the corner of Bayou Lane and Pennsylvania Avenue.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this resource to help protect their homes and property from potential flooding.
To ensure availability for as many residents as possible, there is a limit of 15 sandbags per person.
St. Tammany Parish has also opened a self-service sandbag station in Slidell at 34783 Grantham College Drive.
Please continue to monitor weather forecasts and take any necessary precautions as conditions develop.
