DESCRIPTION:St. Tammany Corporation will host Slidell Development-Ready Community Town Hall Meetings at the Slidell Municipal Auditorium. Two town hall meetings will be held on Thursday\, October 22 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and again on Tuesday\, Oct. 27 from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend. \n\nThe Slidell Municipal Auditorium is located at 2056 Second Street in Olde Towne Slidell. \n\nAs the lead economic development organization for the parish\, St. Tammany Corporation’s primary purpose is to create an environment in our community where businesses\, families\, and talent have an opportunity to thrive. In alignment with these priorities\, Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer has asked St. Tammany Corporation to update Slidell’s strategic economic development plan on his behalf as part of the Louisiana Development Ready Communities (LDRC) Program. The support\, partnership\, and proactivity provided by the mayor is a major asset to our work in economic development. \nThe LDRC program “encourages and supports selected Louisiana communities to become development ready\, competitive\, and ‘open for business’ by creating and implementing a strategic community and economic development plan.” In 2009 and 2010\, 19 communities\, including Slidell\, participated in the LDRC Pilot Program\, and St. Tammany Corporation is excited to now update the city’s original plan to work toward becoming the first parish-wide Development Ready Community in the state. THRIVE2023\, St. Tammany’s comprehensive five-year strategic economic development plan\, will serve as the overarching LDRC plan for the community\, and Slidell’s LDRC plan will complement those parish-wide goals at a local level. \nTo update Slidell’s plan\, St. Tammany Corporation will be hosting a series of town hall meetings open to the public to provide input in developing strategies to address education\, workforce development\, infrastructure\, leadership\, and marketing/communications specific to Slidell. \nThe public can also stop by the City Hall Meeting Room from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Friday\, October 30\, for a come-and-go discussion and public input opportunity for anyone unable to make the town hall meetings. SUMMARY:Louisiana Main Street Recovery Program Public Forum
DESCRIPTION:When State Treasurer John Schroder presented information about the Louisiana Mail Street Recovery Program at The Northshore Collaborative’s September meeting\, the small business network recognized that the presentation needed a much larger platform to share information with small businesses impacted by COVID-19. Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer was quick to embrace a request to host a public forum in the Slidell Municipal Auditorium on Monday\, October 5 at 10 am. \nOn September 29\, the program reached its application cap\, so at this time no further applications are being accepted. As a result\, the upcoming forum will focus on small businesses already in the cue\, with information as to what to expect throughout the application processing. The Louisiana Main Street Recovery Program administered $275 million in dedicated funding to aid small businesses impacted by COVID-19. The program has surpassed its goal of awarding at least $40 million of that funding to eligible minority\, women\, or veteran-owned applicants. \nThe Treasurer also will present information about a constitutional amendment that is on the Nov. 3 ballot to protect Unclaimed Property. The Louisiana Department of Treasury has more than $900 million in lost money for people and businesses across Louisiana. Unclaimed Property includes checking and savings accounts\, unpaid wages\, securities\, life insurance payouts\, uncashed checks and the proceeds of dormant safe deposit boxes. \nBoth the MSRP and Unclaimed Property programs are administered by the Louisiana Department of Treasury as overseen by Treasurer Schroder. \nAlso presented during the upcoming forum will be a brief State of the City update by Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer\, who will share information as to the city’s position on sales tax\, the impact of COVID-19 and moving forward during and beyond these challenging times. \nThe forum is free and open to the public\, and proper social distancing protocols will be observed. Registration is available via the event post on the Northshore-Collaborative Facebook page or by email\, Info@NSCollaborative.com. \nThe Northshore Collaborative was created by small business owners and non-profit administrators specifically to focus on\, and address the special needs of\, small businesses\, non-profits and community organizations.
