Recreation and Leisure Activities

Slidell is a wonderful place to live, visit, and do business. From its beautiful parks and recreational areas along the bayou to its popular golf courses and watercraft activities on Lake Pontchartrain, Slidell has something for everyone.

Located in the heart of Bayou Country, the Slidell area is a favorite with hunters, fishermen, and boating enthusiasts. Slidell offers direct access to several public wildlife management areas and public boat launches. Spend the day sailing, boating, or waterskiing on Lake Pontchartrain, or take a guided swamp tour through our historic areas and scenic bayous.

If you prefer to stay on dry land, your possibilities for family fun are endless. The City of Slidell maintains 32 beautiful city parks and children’s playgrounds.

Heritage Park, Slidell’s most popular community park, was recently honored by the Louisiana Municipal Association naming Slidell’s community development the “Best of the Best” in the state. The park is located along scenic Bayou Bonfouca and offers an amphitheater for outdoor concerts, a public boat launch, two walking paths, picnic shelters with tables, and an oversized gazebo.

More than 4,300 volunteers teamed up to build a 20,000 sq. ft. Children’s Community Playground in Heritage Park. Construction was accomplished using the old-fashioned “barn raising” method over a period of six days. The park is a family favorite for residents and visitors.

For our sports enthusiasts, Slidell’s two gymnasiums offer indoor sports like basketball and volleyball, and our numerous soccer, baseball, and football fields are busy every day with children and adult league games and tournaments. Slidell’s boys’ and girls’ soccer teams have consistently won state titles.

Slidell also offers first-class golf courses, several country clubs, and a number of gym and athletic facilities.
