Admission is free. \nThe Northshore Community Orchestra is the only symphony orchestra in St. Tammany Parish where both youths and adults can make learning and performing music a lifelong endeavor. The orchestra was established in 1987\, and has operated continuously ever since. The orchestra performs several full orchestra concerts as well as some smaller group ensembles throughout the year\, with genres including classical\, jazz\, pop\, folk\, ethnic\, traditional\, movie themes\, and broadway hits. Each year\, the orchestra typically performs for Slidell’s Patriot Day ceremony and Christmas and spring concerts. \nThe members of the orchestra come from Slidell\, St. Tammany Parish and from surrounding parishes in the Greater New Orleans area and south Mississippi. The members represent a diverse assortment of backgrounds such as students\, medical professionals\, engineers\, skilled tradesmen\, scientists\, homemakers\, members of the military\, educators\, and retirees. Though our student members typically begin with us around late middle school or junior high age\, currently our youngest member is just 9 years old\, and our oldest is in his 80s. Some of the orchestra’s musicians are family members who play together – spouses\, parents\, children\, and siblings. \nThe Slidell Municipal Auditorium is located at 2056 Second Street in Olde Towne Slidell. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and seating is available on a first-come\, first-served basis. Admission is free\, but a donation to the Northshore Community Orchestra is welcomed.

DESCRIPTION:Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer is inviting the public to join him at the Slidell premiere of a new documentary about Slidell artist George Dunbar. George Dunbar: Mining the Surfaces will premiere on Thursday\, March 16\, 2023 at 6 p.m. at the Slidell Municipal Auditorium. Admission is free. \nFrom the award-winning executive producers of the documentaries Fats Domino–Walkin’ Back to New Orleans and A Tribute to Toussaint comes the latest documentary by WLAE-TV and LAE Productions. \nFor those who know the artist and his work\, this name brings a career\, a work ethic\, a personality\, a journey into vivid focus. \nLike his art\, George Dunbar is a gift to the world of beauty he inhabits. Across the decades he has been in constant motion\, and like the landscape he lives and works within\, his work\, his style\, have ever ebbed and flowed in a myriad of directions. His works have been called sumptuous\, vigorous\, immaculate\, and an effort toward perfection. \nFrom the early days of Abstract Expressionism in New York\, working with giants like Franz Kline and Willem de Kooning\, showing with the former\, his body of work has run like a river through the varied series and mediums over time. The sculptural and gilded forms he is known for take on a refined ethos with a sublime weightiness and permanence. The precise\, architectural\, if not liturgical works of scale\, from the “Coin” series\, are both modern\, and convey a profound history the viewer “knows”. \nGeorge Dunbar’s love of New Orleans\, his inspiration derived from the landscape here\, his place in the rise of modern and contemporary art in the area\, and his rare approachability as an artist of voluminous contribution\, are the substance of this long overdue documentary on the man and his work. \nCollectors cannot get enough of him or his work; some have entire homes filled with only his work\, the varied series across the decades. To speak with him\, it is immediately clear\, “the work is the thing.” For Dunbar the calling to art is about the art\, with no regard to the misappropriated and all too common search for fame and recognition. DESCRIPTION:Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer invites the public to join him on Thursday\, February 23\, at 6 p.m. for a concert featuring the United States Air Force Band of the West Velocity Jazz Ensemble. The concert will be held at the Slidell Municipal Auditorium and admission is free. \nThe USAF Band of the West is a musical organization with an outstanding record of achievement. The Airmen assigned to the band are highly-trained professional musicians who have dedicated themselves to serving their country through music. \nThe USAF Band of the West travels more than 125\,000 miles annually and provides hundreds of performances to military and civilian audiences throughout Texas\, Oklahoma\, Louisiana\, Mississippi\, Alabama\, Georgia\, Florida\, and Puerto Rico. The organization is made up of the large ensembles Concert Band\, Ceremonial Marching Band\, Dimensions in Blue\, and three popular music groups\, Warhawk\, Top Flight\, and Velocity. Small ensembles within the unit include Freedom Brass\, Gateway Brass\, Spectrum Winds\, Nightwatch\, Mission Winds\, and protocol combos. This diversity enables the USAF Band of the West to perform practically any style of music from classical and country to marches and mambos. \nThe USAF Band of the West has performed for presidents\, heads of state\, and dignitaries from around the world earning an outstanding reputation among America’s military bands. \nThe USAF Band of the West has a long lineage in the United States Air Force. The band was created on October 1st\, 1941 at Moffett Field\, California and moved to Enid Army Airfield soon after. With the birth of the United States Air Force in 1947\, the band moved to what eventually became Lackland Air Force Base. The band was inactivated in 1955 but reactivated in 1959. The title “Band of the West” was used for years until May 1st\, 1997 when it was granted official status. \nThe Slidell Municipal Auditorium is located at 2056 Second Street in Olde Towne Slidell. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and seating is available on a first-come\, first-served basis.

Currently\, we are preparing an application through the FEMA Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) grant program. This is a competitive program among applicants from across the country\, and therefore\, funding is limited.\n\n\n\nThe City of Slidell will host a meeting to discuss this application opportunity on November 2nd\, 2021 at 6pm in the Slidell City Auditorium. We encourage all interested property owners within the City of Slidell to attend.\n\n\n\nIf this application is funded\, we will be able to offer eligible Severe Repetitive Loss (SRL) applicants as much as 100% of your eligible elevation costs. Repetitive Loss (RL) applicants are eligible for 90% of your eligible elevation costs.

SUMMARY:Louisiana Main Street Recovery Program Public Forum
DESCRIPTION:When State Treasurer John Schroder presented information about the Louisiana Mail Street Recovery Program at The Northshore Collaborative’s September meeting\, the small business network recognized that the presentation needed a much larger platform to share information with small businesses impacted by COVID-19. Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer was quick to embrace a request to host a public forum in the Slidell Municipal Auditorium on Monday\, October 5 at 10 am. \nOn September 29\, the program reached its application cap\, so at this time no further applications are being accepted. As a result\, the upcoming forum will focus on small businesses already in the cue\, with information as to what to expect throughout the application processing. The Louisiana Main Street Recovery Program administered $275 million in dedicated funding to aid small businesses impacted by COVID-19. The program has surpassed its goal of awarding at least $40 million of that funding to eligible minority\, women\, or veteran-owned applicants. \nThe Treasurer also will present information about a constitutional amendment that is on the Nov. 3 ballot to protect Unclaimed Property. The Louisiana Department of Treasury has more than $900 million in lost money for people and businesses across Louisiana. Unclaimed Property includes checking and savings accounts\, unpaid wages\, securities\, life insurance payouts\, uncashed checks and the proceeds of dormant safe deposit boxes. \nBoth the MSRP and Unclaimed Property programs are administered by the Louisiana Department of Treasury as overseen by Treasurer Schroder. \nAlso presented during the upcoming forum will be a brief State of the City update by Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer\, who will share information as to the city’s position on sales tax\, the impact of COVID-19 and moving forward during and beyond these challenging times. \nThe forum is free and open to the public\, and proper social distancing protocols will be observed.
